Garrett State Bank is Committed to Our Communities

As a community bank, the word “community” is at the core of our being and part of everything that we do. It’s no surprise then, that in 2022 the Indiana Bankers Association selected Garrett State Bank as a nominee for its Commitment to Community (C2C) Awards. The final awards (one for banks under $500 million in assets and the other for banks $500 million in assets or more) were presented to banks from throughout Indiana at the annual IBA Mega Conference in Indianapolis.

Fogt Named Leader in Banking Excellence

Mark S. Fogt, president and CEO of Garrett State Bank, is being honored by the Indiana Bankers Association with the IBA Leaders in Banking Excellence award, to be presented on Aug. 16 at the IBA Annual Convention in French Lick. This award celebrates exceptional leaders who have positively impacted Indiana banks and communities. Six other members of the Indiana banking community are being inducted into the class of 2021 leaders.

Celebrating 125 Years

The Garrett State Bank and the City of Garrett were named after John Work Garrett. John's father Robert Garrett had become a successful merchant and shipper in Baltimore and had extensive interests throughout the East. He stepped in to assist the financially embarrassed Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in several ways. Bonds were sold to finance the extension to Wheeling WV and his firm assisted in making various management decisions. Robert Garrett's sons, Henry and John W. Garrett became members of the Board of Directors of the railroad.
